“The qualities you possess leave behind a reputation to be desired.” ~Shantee’
Has anyone ever recommended you for a new career opportunity, partnership for a business venture, or your name came up in ways that you couldn’t have orchestrated if you tried? What would they say about you?
OR
Has a situation ever caused you to respond by yelling, cursing, stepping into someone’s personal space ready to fight, being sneaky or manipulative so you can have your way, etc.? What would that situation say about your character?
Either of us can find ourselves in one of these scenarios; however, it is up to us to manage our character in a way that is desirable unto God. Last week as I was preparing for Monday Morning motivation for life group, the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den came to mind. First, let’s understand Daniel a little bit more. Daniel was assigned and trained to be in the king’s service (Dan. 1:5). He understood all kinds of vision and dreams (Dan. 1:17). During the transition of leadership, Daniel was called to interpret a message written on the wall (Daniel 5). Since Daniel was appointed chief over magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners (Dan. 5:11) his character preceded him (Dan. 5:12). By the time we get to Daniel 6, King Darius is in leadership. He was looking for three administrators to rule over the satraps. Satraps are modern day governors (Dan. 6:1) Daniel was distinguished amongst the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional quality (Dan. 6:3). The satraps where not happy with this decision and wanted to find something against him. They could not find one corrupt thing (6:4) so they had to use the law of God (6:5). You see Daniel experienced moments like we face today. Daniel was faced with an impossible situation (lion’s den) due to a divisive plan (a decree) created by the satraps (6:6-9).
I can only imagine what Daniel must’ve been thinking. “I’m doing my job, minding my business and here you go coming for me. I did nothing to you”. Your character will leave an imprint and how you respond matters. What is your response when you are faced with the impossible?

How do we have a good name and become esteemed? Here are three ways to have a desirable character:
Stay in Character
When you are faced with situations that seem unfair or impossible, display your qualities, beliefs, and values. Don’t get outside of yourself or act differently. You never know who is watching.
Tell God Everything
When Daniel heard of the decree, he continued to pray like he always did (Dan. 6:10). When you tell God exactly how you feel there will be peace, safety, and protection from Him. Prayer activates your trust in God. When you pray, God will work the impossible on your behalf. He will vindicate you.
Daniel answered “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your majesty.” Daniel 6:21-22
Walk in Your Victory
When you have God on your side, you will be victorious every time. God will change the heart of those who meant to do you harm (Dan. 6:14,18, 20).
As you go forward in the next week, month, or year; I encourage you to take inventory of your response to situations as they arise and evaluate what needs to be improved for continued growth in your character. By doing this you will develop a character that will leave a lasting imprint and one to precede you.
